Statement of intent
Brief 3: Magazines and online
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical
framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen
brief? (approx. 400 words)
To make my Brand “The Spice of life” appeal across multiple
products I have chosen a variety of topics. I have chosen some of the most popular
hobbies that can appeal to most young target audiences. Hobbies like Gaming and
Sport can appeal to a younger target. However, Topics such as tourism and Food (Cooking)
can appeal to a younger audience for solo traveling or travelling with friends.
Both audiences can enjoy topics such as Technology or Films as there is more of
a variety of content and products that can be reached. Having a multiple topics and products and items
that are released in the year of the magazine release allows a younger audience
to read the magazine. Items such as a PlayStation or a Nintendo switch could
appeal to a younger audience for recommendations or choosing what game or console
to buy. This could also be applied with Film genres. Horror Genre would also appeal
to a younger audience because of authors and merchandise such as Funko pops and
other Action figures. Where science fiction or Animation would appear to a younger
audience because of the lighter content involved within the genre conventions.
Streaming services such as Netflix and Disney plus use a wide range of genre
Using a mixed tone of colours will help when considering the mixed age range.
Colours such as Dark blue or Gold could be used on the magazine cover to appeal
to the mixed audiences. This could be used in the Masthead as Gold is an eye-catching
colour. A large Bold font will be more eye catching towards the audience as it
stands out in the dark background. Colours such as Black will stand out on a white,
grey or silver background. A white font however can stand out on more different
colours and still be eye catching. Photos
can be used to visually show the readers what is being represented in the magazine.
The images will mostly determine the colour scheme of the content pages as the colour
scheme will need to match. The website will be interactive and simple to use.
This would be more accessible for everyone including parents when purchasing the
magazine. Any videos featured will be linked to contents involved In the magazine.
This could be promotional video or a speech. A speech mentioning what the
magazine is about and how the brand will be effective to representing the
audience / needs for matching the brief.
